Go Team! Doubleteam's Sport Bar
by Gabriela Gonzalez

A night of chicken wings and beer may never seem the same after a visit to Double
Team, a sport bar that gives a classy twist to this ever-popular concept.

Located on the outskirts of the San Patricio mall, in the city of Guaynabo, this
highly frequented joint caters not only to the average sports fan, but also to the
pickier socialites who prefer to hit the town in style.

With plenty of TV’s and projectors around to ensure everyone can watch the live
game, boxing match, or whichever sporting event, Double Team lacks nothing in
the technology department.  As for the music, there’s usually a local disc jockey
mixing it up in the DJ cabin or a live band performing onstage.

The local cover bands playing at Double Team include San Blás on Wednesdays,
Zorro Viejo on Thursdays, Los Gatos on Fridays and La Búsqueda on Saturdays.

And the good news is that there’s never a cover charge at Double Team, no matter
what, so customers can walk into the swanky locale with a little extra cash in their
pockets and spend it on something a little more worthwhile, like the Executive
Happy Hour drink specials on Thursdays and Fridays, with drinks going for as low
as $1.

“That’s why we’re always full,” explains Omar Flores, Double Team manager since
it first opened its doors in October 2005.

And although Double Team may have a familiar atmosphere during the day, not
just anyone can get in at night, at least from Thursdays to Saturdays.  On those
nights, Double Team caters to a more adult crowd, strictly age 23 and up, and
enforces a casual-elegant dress code.  That means no shorts, sneakers, baseball
caps or anything that may seem too informal.

Those going for the food will be happy to know the kitchen remains open until 1 or
2 am on weekends, so they won’t go hungry as the night wears on.

Favorites include the Double Team Sampler (includes wings, mozzarella sticks,
chicken rings, quesadillas and mini cordon blue) and any of the juicy burgers
featured on the menu.  There are also salads, wraps, fajitas, and other entrees
(such as Churrasco) to choose from.

Double Team opens daily at 11:30 am, and usually closes when the party’s over.
