Looking for a place to hang out while you are at the south shore of the Island?
Hollywood Café in Ponce has many of the elements you may find at pubs in the
metro area: good music, fun environment and cold drinks.
What’s the best of Hollywood Cafe? El Party del Pelao or The Cheapskate Party,
every Wednesday. Adrian Guzman, the manager, said that’s the hottest day to
be at Hollywood Café because the local beer, Medalla, will cost only $1 and there
are live bands. Crowds of college students and young professionals pack the
place every week looking for cheap beers and the best party in the area. People
come from towns nearby and even as far as San Juan.
Hollywood Cafe opens around 5:00 p.m., except Tuesdays because it’s closed,
and stays open until 1:00 a.m. on weekends. Guzman mentioned they are
different from other cafes because they close at 3:00 a.m. Sundays, Mondays
and Wednesdays are hands down the most popular days where the bar is
standing room only. Actually, weekends are kind of slow for Hollywood’s where on
Saturday you’ll see only a few groups talking and drinking or playing billiards.
The place doesn’t have air conditioning, but is a big open space surrounded with
a balcony. Even on a hot summer night the temperature is comfortable. The
environment is easygoing and so is the dress code, as long as you are wearing
shoes and shirt.
Aside from the beers, the bartenders will make any kind of drink, the most
popular is “Big Apple”, which is fruity and refreshingly and perfect for the island’s
tropical weather. And if your looking for something to eat, they can prepare
appetizers such as chicken wings and other kinds of fritters.
How to get to Hollywood Cafe
From Highway 52, take exit 99A to “Ponce Centro”. Go straight down the road
until you get to a crossroad and turn right in direction of “Ponce Centro”.
Immediately after, look to your right and you are already there.
