Hola, bienvenidos a Boriken. Hello and welcome to
Boriken, the name the native Taino Indians gave to
Puerto Rico, which is also the name of our fishing
charter that my brother and I started three years
ago.
We are very lucky to live in the island of Puerto
Rico. I call it the most versatile island in the world
because you can do everything here except for
maybe snowboarding, but today I am going to talk
about Tarpon fishing right here in San Juan. We
have one of the best fisheries in the world only 5 to
10 minutes from most of the hotels in the San Juan
area. To be exact, we fish in the San Jose, and
Torrecilla lagoons and mangroves. This place is full
of resident fish in the 10 to 60 pound range. There
are plenty of fish here year round and always in
good numbers. The location boasts fish in the 80 to
150 pound range towards the first half of the year,
but you can get lucky any time of the year. This fish
are a sport fishing dream as they explode out of the
water as soon as the hook is set and the fight is on!
Always be careful to not pull the hook out, which
happens more than I like to admit, but that’s why
they call it fishing and not catching. If you do get
lucky and set your hook properly, get ready for the
fight of your life because as any saltwater angler
knows, the silver king is the ultimate challenge for
inshore saltwater fishing. Those who have
experienced the rush of tarpon fishing are hooked
on the silver king. If you haven’t done it, you must try
it.
Like I said, the action is red hot and the fishing
grounds are breathtaking to say the least, and we’ll
see you in the water!
