Moonlighting at Happy Bellies in Jobos

There’s something magical about watching the sunset at Jobos Beach in Isabela,
and perhaps there is no better place to witness such a spectacular event as
Happy Belly’s Sports Bar & Grill, a restaurant overlooking the Jobos coastline.
Happy Belly’s strategic location allows customers to get a full panoramic view of
this stunning beach, particularly if they sit at the restaurant’s balcony.
“Being here on a moonlit night, when the moon is full, is priceless,” says Joshua
Torres Pagán, a traveling jewelry maker who sells his creations along the
northwest coast of Puerto Rico.
And after more than 10 years in existence, Happy Belly’s is still going strong,
especially after its menu was expanded to include typical “criollo” cuisine.
“After I bought the restaurant, I decided to expand the menu to include more
dishes oriented to different tastes,” says owner Gilberto Ferrer, who purchased
Happy Belly’s around 5 years ago, which is also the amount of time that Chef
Angel Rivera has been in charge of the kitchen.
Happy Belly’s extensive and inexpensive menu caters to almost anyone’s appetite
and budget needs, with many different plates to choose from under $20,
something that Ferrer says is unusual in this type of business, since seaside
restaurants tend to be more expensive.
Favorite appetizers include the Tostones Rellenos de Mariscos (fried plantains
stuffed with seafood) and the Belly Buster Nachos, a huge plate of nachos
covered with cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce, chili and chicken.
Popular entrees include the Chillo Entero (Whole Snapper), the Certified Angus
Beef Churrasco, and the Mofongo Relleno (mashed plantains stuffed with
seafood in a creole sauce).
There are also Lunch Specials every day for under $6.
But Happy Belly’s doesn’t only offer great food in a beautiful tropical setting:
There’s also entertainment four nights a week, with live music on Wednesday and
Saturday nights, and a DJ on Thursdays and Fridays.
Happy Belly’s opens Sundays through Tuesdays from 11 am to 11pm, and
Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 am to 3 am. For more information, call
