D.I.M.: What’s History 101 of Machete?
Flavio Diaz: We started the concept of MACHETE, originally knows as
Macheteros, in November 1995, but our first show wasn’t until April of 1996
at a club in called Longbranch. The band evolved from there as band
members changed and in 1998 we released a six song Demo. 1999 saw a
lot of change for the band as band members changed again as well as our
name which we use today, MACHETE. After that we released our first Full
Album in 2000 called AWAKE and REMASTER in 2002, the CD was sold and
distributed everywhere in P.R.,  USA, MEXICO, and ARGENTINA. In 2004 we
made MASTERS OF DISASTER, which includes a DVD videography with
different video clips from Machetero and  MACHETE shows.
D.I.M.: How has your latest release Masters of Disaster been accepted?
Flavio Diaz: ufffffffffff We were fortunate to sell every copy of it and the
album seriously opened doors for us in the music business.
D.I.M.: What are your favorite songs off the new release?
Flavio Diaz: I like every song, but fans seem to like GOD, PROFILE, Take on
Me ( Cover song from AH HA ), Tribulation, FBI, and Opresiva. Each song
means a lot for us because they talk about what we go through and feel
every day.
D.I.M.: How do you keep your voice together during the show? Genetics,
practice or luck?
Flavio Diaz: Jajajajaja I don’t know….. my mom use to scream a lot
jajajajaja...
No, really, lots of practice and more practice But what I have always said is
that I used to sing in a Death Metal Band when in High School and you know
that Death Metal is very aggressive and Heavy Music, so singing in
MACHETE means “ peace of cake .”
D.I.M.: What bands influenced your music for those that haven’t heard
Machete yet.
Flavio Diaz: Well, Pity our Drummer only listens to Death Metal Bands, Alvin
and Wiwi like to listen bands like Prodigy, Electronic music and Drum &
Bass, plus they listen to heavy shit tooo, Jo Juan likes bands like Sepultura,
Fear Factory, Soulfly and all kinds of good Heavy Bands, and I listen to all
kind of music except, Reguetton, Merengue or Bachata jajajajajaja...
D.I.M.:  You guys have been at it for a few years now, what has been your
most memorable tour?
Flavio Diaz: Always the Last Tour is better than all others.
D.I.M.:  We’ve been privileged enough to see one of your shows and its
Dragon escapades. How do you go about breathing fire on stage?
Flavio Diaz: A good friend of ours ( Nico) used to work in a circus, so he
taught me. I don’t know how to explain it but it is easy and we do it because
of the visual effect. Every bands has to give something different to the crowd
when they are performing live. The music industry is very competitive right
now and live performance is the only way to keep your music going.
D.I.M.:  What do you guys do when your not playing?
Flavio Diaz: aaajajaja OK mmmm!!!!!??? Pity Manuel - he only plays drums
6 hours a day and its the only thing he knows how to do, but it makes him a
great drummer. Wiwi ( DJ )- is a DJ at a club in Aguadilla, P.R. and he has
his own electronic music project called 2 Sick Minds with one of the ex-
members of MACHETE. Alvin ( Bass )- mmmmmmmmmm Alvin
mmmmmmmmm I reserve my comments jajajajaja but what I can say is that
he works in a office with one of our friends jajajajaja... Jo Juan -Guitar - is a
full time student studying music at the University of P.R. Rio Piedras
Campus, and he plays guitar in other projects like, Mazukamba and
Voracious. And me Flavio- I am a music teacher with the Department of
Education in a public school in San Sebastian, P.R., I also own a club called
BLUE MOON in Pepino which is focused on giving local and international
bands a chance and exposure for their music.
But what we all do when we are not playing is hang out and Drink, Drink,
Drink jajajajaja PuertoRican Rums and Medallas jajajajaja...
D.I.M.:  What do you think Ah Ha thinks about your seriously hardcore
remake of their 80’s pop melody?
Flavio Diaz: I have no idea but everybody likes it, everybody sings it when
we perform live, and Radio Stations, Magazines, and newspapers have
always made great comments about our TAKE ON ME version from ( AH HA
).
D.I.M.: What’s up in the near future for Machete?
Flavio Diaz: We are recording our new CD that is going to be called
PREMONITION and we think it is our best release yet, and CHRISTIAN
MACHADO from iLL NIñO is singing with me on one of the tracks. For more
information and release dates:   www.myspace.com/machetemusic
or machetemail@yahoo.com
D.I.M.: Anything you would like to ad or anyone you would like to thank?
Flavio Diaz: To all local Bands and their hard working members, never give
up, keep making good music and follow your dreams, and if someone needs
any help catch us on web www.myspece.com/machetemusic  or www.
myspece.com/machete or email machetemail@yahoo.com. You can also get
