| Originally established in 1965 on Ponce de León Ave from Cuban owners, Metropol is the place to go to find great food at reasonable prices with impeccable service. Metropol, a family owned business begun by José Canosa has remained a family legacy with his grandsons Alex Rabelo and Cristian Rabelo and now boasts three locations, one in Hato Rey that opened in 1976; another Isla Verde that opened in 1980 at and their newest addition in 2003 in Fajardo. The menu offers a combination of “criollo” plates, sprinkled with a variety of Cuban and Spanish plates, not to mentiona their huge wine selection . Opened from 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m., Metropol has a cocktail lounge and two dinning rooms as well as a salon available for private activities. The house specialties are stuffed cornish hen and the “fiesta cubana”, a combination of typical Cuban dishes: congri, tamate, pork, cassava, pot roast and shredded beef. Also popular is the smoked pork with boiled potatoes and the “mojito” a Cuban coctail made with Bacardi rum, sugar, lime, club soda and fresh yerba buena leaves. Entrees include a choice of congri rice, maposteao rice, black beans, red beans, mofongo de yuca o de platano, among others. With a capacity of 300 people and a friendly environment, Metropol’s excellent team of wait staff that will take the time to explain the preparation and contents of every dish to all clients. So after eating well and enjoying superb service, the only thing left to do is to choose between a variety of home made desserts, like the flan, the “pudín diplomático” and the “natilla”. And if you have the room, Metropol delicious Encantos de Puerto Rico coffee, milled at the restaurant. |
