| Most people would agree that no place in the San Juan-Metro area combines classiness and trendiness to such an extent as the Condado district. For decades, its luxurious hotels, historic buildings, high-rise condos, hip nightclubs and happening restaurants have made it one of the most popular destinations among tourists and locals alike. One of these trendy spots is Migas, a restaurant located on 1400 Magdalena Avenue –parallel to Ashford Avenue– on the first floor of a beautiful building known as Casabella. Founded by Chef Miguel García, Migas boasts a variety of unique and interesting dishes where hints of Caribbean, French and Asian cuisine reach culinary heights. And with its sultry lounge atmosphere and intimate dining area, Migas defines chicness, something that fits in perfectly with the Condado groove. Every evening, Migas opens its doors to a crowd mostly made up of professionals who go to wind down while enjoying the food and drinks, especially at the bar and lounge area, where smoking is allowed. This particular section of the restaurant has a rather sexy charm to it, with the dim lighting bouncing off the reddish walls creating a cozy environment. Off to the side of the bar, with a large window facing Magdalena Avenue, there’s a smaller room with a few tables, where clients can enjoy their dinner while remaining near the lounge area. The larger dining area is also beautifully decorated, with mirrors and artwork adorning the walls. It’s perhaps the perfect place to order a glass of wine from Migas’ extensive wine menu and enjoy one of Chef García’s creations, like the Coffee and Black Pepper Crusted Lamb Chops with Mashed Root Vegetables and Red Wine Sauce. Choices from the Tapas (Appetizer) section of the menu range from a delicate sampler of Prosciutto, Artesanal Cheeses and Olives to Braised Short Ribs in Aged Balsamic Reduction. “We’re planning on expanding our selection of Tapas soon,” says restaurant manager Edgar Dolande, adding that these are perhaps the most popular items on the menu. Migas opens Mondays through Wednesdays from 6 pm-11 pm, and Thursdays through Saturdays from 6 pm- midnight. For more information, call (787) 721- 5991 or e-mail migasinnovativecuisine@hotmail.com. |
